Newcastle and the Hunter

uPVC Windows and Doors for Newcastle's Coast and Suburbs

Salt off the ocean and noise off the roads and rail are the two things Newcastle windows have to deal with. We make uPVC windows and doors to measure that handle both, and we install them ourselves across the city and the Hunter.

Living near the water

Salt air, and what it does to the frames you have now

From Merewether round to Stockton the air carries salt most of the year. Aluminium chalks and pits, powder coating lifts at the joins, and the hardware is usually the first thing to go: sliders stiffen, rollers corrode and locks stop lining up.

uPVC has nothing to corrode. The colour is part of the profile rather than a coating over it, so there is no finish to fail and no repainting cycle. Washing the frames down is the maintenance. We specify corrosion resistant hardware so the moving parts keep up with the frame.

Every style is made to measure and available double or triple glazed. Choose the look and the way it opens, and we will match it to the performance your rooms need.

Lift and Slide Doors

Lifts off its seals to glide and drops back to compress them, so a wide Newcastle deck opening stays light to move and seals properly against a southerly.

Sliding Doors

Corrosion resistant tracks and rollers, which is the part that fails first on a slider within reach of the salt air.

Best for: Everyday indoor to outdoor

Sliding Windows

Fits the smaller openings in the older Hamilton and Mayfield housing without needing swing space inside the room.

Casement Windows

A compression seal on all four sides, which combined with laminated glass is the configuration that does most for road and rail noise.

Noise

Quietening a house near a main road or the rail line

Newcastle packs a lot of movement into a small area: freight and passenger rail, arterial roads through the inner suburbs, and the port. Single glazed windows do almost nothing to stop that, because a thin pane and a loose seal are the two things sound travels through most easily.

Double glazing reduces it, and the specification matters: differing glass thicknesses either side of the cavity and laminated glass perform noticeably better against traffic noise than a standard symmetrical unit. We will talk through what your situation actually calls for rather than quoting one glass type for every opening.

Is it time to upgrade?

Signs a Newcastle home is due for replacement

If any of these sound familiar, replacement will make a real difference to how the house feels and performs.

  • Chalky white residue or pitting on aluminium frames and tracks.
  • Sliding doors that have become heavy or jump their track.
  • Traffic or rail noise carrying clearly into bedrooms.
  • Locks and handles that no longer line up or turn freely.
  • Condensation on the inside of the glass through winter.

Common questions

Newcastle windows and doors, answered

Will uPVC hold up near the ocean?

Yes. uPVC does not corrode, so it does not pit or chalk the way powder coated aluminium does in salt air, and there is no coating to lift. We pair it with corrosion resistant hardware for the same reason.

How much quieter will double glazing make the house?

Noticeably quieter, though we will not put a percentage on it because it depends on the noise source, the wall construction and the rest of the openings. Asymmetric glass thicknesses and laminated glass make a real difference against road and rail noise.

Do you service the wider Hunter or only Newcastle itself?

We work across Newcastle and the surrounding Hunter suburbs. Tell us the address when you book and we will confirm the visit.

Can you replace a large sliding door with something easier to move?

Often yes. A lift and slide lifts the panel clear of its seals to move and drops it back to compress them, which makes a big panel far easier to operate and seals better than a standard roller slider.

Are your windows made locally?

They are made to order in our own workshop at Wetherill Park using European uPVC systems, then delivered and installed by our own fitting team.
