Goulburn and the Southern Tablelands

Warmer Windows for Goulburn's Cold, Windy Winters

Goulburn gets the cold and the wind together, and a single glazed window loses on both counts. We make double glazed uPVC windows and doors to measure and fit them across Goulburn and the Mulwaree district.

Wind and cold together

Draughts are costing you more than the glass is

On the Southern Tablelands the wind does as much damage to comfort as the temperature. Old timber sashes shrink and rattle, aluminium sliders rely on a brush seal that wears out, and the gap you cannot see moves a surprising amount of air through the house. You feel it as a cold draught across the floor while the heater is running flat out.

uPVC windows close onto compression seals and lock at several points around the sash, pulling the whole unit tight into the frame. Stopping that air movement often makes a bigger difference to how a Goulburn house feels than the glazing upgrade on its own, and the two together change the room completely.

The range

uPVC Window and Door Styles for Goulburn Homes

Every style is made to measure and available double or triple glazed. Choose the look and the way it opens, and we will match it to the performance your rooms need.

Tilt and Turn Windows

Two actions from one handle, and when it is closed the sash is drawn onto compression seals all the way round, which is what stops a Southern Tablelands wind getting through.

Best for: The tightest seal we make

Casement Windows

Cranks out and clamps back onto its seals rather than sliding past a brush, so it holds up where the wind is constant.

Best for: Exposed and windy sites

Sliding Windows

A like for like swap for a tired aluminium slider, made to the opening you already have so there is no patching or reframing.

Best for: Straightforward replacements

Hinged Doors

An insulated entry with multi point locking, which usually removes the worst draught in an older Goulburn house in one go.

Best for: Entry doors that stop the draught

French Doors

Double doors that open wide and suit the proportions of Goulburn's older brick homes while sealing far better than the originals.

Best for: Period frontages

Double Glazed Windows and Doors

Double and triple glazed units with argon fill and Low E, specified to the room rather than applied uniformly across the house.

Heating costs

Where the heat goes in an older Goulburn home

A lot of Goulburn housing is solid, older and generously glazed, which is pleasant in spring and expensive in July. Glass is almost always the weakest part of the building envelope, so a house with good ceiling insulation can still be hard to heat if the windows are single glazed and leaky.

We make the units to measure, so you can treat the house room by room and start where the heating load is worst. Most people begin with the living areas and the bedrooms on the windward side, then carry on from there.

Is it time to upgrade?

Signs it is time to replace

If any of these sound familiar, replacement will make a real difference to how the house feels and performs.

  • A cold draught across the floor with every window shut.
  • Sashes that rattle when the wind picks up.
  • Condensation and mould on the reveals through winter.
  • Heating running constantly without the house feeling warm.
  • Timber frames that have been painted shut or have rotted at the sill.

Common questions

Goulburn windows, answered

Will new windows actually cut my heating bill?

We will not promise you a figure, because it depends on your house, your heating and how you use it. What we can say is that glass is usually the weakest part of the envelope, and sealing the draughts while upgrading the glazing is where the biggest comfort change comes from.

Is uPVC strong enough for exposed, windy sites?

Yes. The profiles are multi chamber and steel reinforced where the span requires it, and the sash locks at multiple points around the frame rather than at a single catch.

Do you do just a few rooms, or the whole house?

Either. Everything is made to order, so staging the work room by room is straightforward and later stages still match what you did first.

How long do uPVC frames last in a harsh climate?

They do not rot, rust or need repainting, and we provide a ten year manufacturer warranty on the frames. Maintenance is washing them down.

Do you travel to Goulburn?

Yes. We measure on site, build in our own workshop and send our own installers out, so one team is responsible from start to finish.
