New homes in New South Wales have to clear BASIX energy and thermal targets, and those targets went up in October 2023 to a 7-star NatHERS standard. Which means the building envelope is doing real work now. Walls. Roof. Doors. And glazing, above all. Rising electricity tariffs add their own nudge, because grid power has climbed steeply over the past few years and shows little sign of easing.
So it makes sense that renovators look first at the openings in their walls. Glass might account for only 10 to 15% of a façade, yet it can drive up to 40% of unwanted heat gain or loss.
